Ex-international and head of the technical department of National Association of Nigerian Footballers (NANF), Awala Jumbo has written the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Ethics Committee, accusing the chairman of the NFF Referees Appointment Committee, Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, using his office for bribery, gross manipulation of referees appointment during the 2017/18 Nigeria Professional Football League
(NPFL) in favor of Plateau United FC to emerge champions.

Mr. Awala, who is also the chairman of NANF monitoring committee of the NPFL matches, an independent committee set up to improve the standard of the league in his petition accused Ahmed Fresh, which according to him takes huge gratification by appointing referees that carried out the assignment in ensuring that Plateau United, won averagely most of its matches in the recently concluded NPFL season.

Also, according to his petition, among several other matches, the game between Sunshine Stars and Akwa United FC, where the NFF referees appointment committee appointed all the match officials from his home state, Niger State, and was physically present at Ijebu-Ode for the game ensuring Akwa lost the game.
Another game between Kano Pillars and Plateau United FC was given as a case of study. "For those of us who were physically present at the match venue, it was nothing but a day light robbery particularly when the center referee did the impossible to ensure the game ended in a 1-1 draw," he stated in the petition.

He specifically revealed (in a video footage evidence) how a reception was organized by the management of Plateau United to honor him as a mark of appreciation for helping their course against all odds to emerge champions of the league in the recently concluded season
He, however, insists that NANF will proceed with vital evidence present the matter to the relevant anti-graft agencies if necessary action is not taken against the petition.
"We shall also proceed with vital information concerning the criminal aspect of this matter that is outside the jurisdiction of football with a formal complaint to the relevant anti-graft agencies for a thorough investigation on alleged several gratifications received by Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf Fresh to compromise and manipulate the 2017/18 NPFL season," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the petition dated 17 August was also forwarded to the chairman of the NFF ethics committee, but the committee is yet to respond to all the allegations leveled against Ahmed Fresh, who doubles as chairman of Niger State Football Association, also an executive board member of the NFF.
